Aqua Tots exclusively designed program allows children to progress through the stages of learning to swim easily.
- Each stage concentrates on important swimming skills.
- Step by step progression allowsyour child to master breathing, technique and rhythm in all competitive strokes.
The program is exclusively designed by Australia’s leading swim school consultant, Coach Cameron Roberts and implemented by highly qualified teachers, involves small classes with greater attention given to each child.
Poor technique can often be irreversible.
The Basic Progression is:

The Stages of Learning to Swim
DOLPHIN
- Enter water safely
Shallow, safe exit - Kicking legs
With various aids - Show paddling arms
With teacher support. - Float on back
Floatation aid acceptable - Swim 3m, Any stroke
Confidently swim 3m, unaided, face in - Survival Jump
Aided from poolside or unaided from platform - Submerge and recover an object
- Confident in attempting tasks on their own
BIONIC BLOWIE
- Enter water safely
Shallow, safe exit - Swim 4m, Freestyle arms
Unaided, face in, arms clearing the water - Glide forward
Horizontal body position, face in - Float or Glide backwards and recover
Head support only - Survival jump
Aided from poolside
TURBO TURTLE
- Swim 8m freestyle, breathe and blow
Board permitted - Glide forward and kick 8m
Horizontal body position, face in, unaided - Glide backward and kick 8m
Unaided - Submerge and recover an object
Deep end - Survival Jump and swim
Unaided, swim 3m turn around and return to the wall
SONIC SEAHORSE
- Swim 15m freestyle
Unaided, correct technique - Glide backward and kick 15m
Arms by side, unaided - Swim 10m survival backstroke
- Demonstrate survival sculling
On back, 10 seconds - Demonstrate a forward roll
WIZZY WHALE
- Swim 20m freestyle
Regular breathing, unaided - Swim 20m backstroke
Catch up acceptable - Demonstrate dolphin kick
- Swim 15m survival backstroke
- Demonstrate breaststroke kick
On front with noodle, approx 5m
MARLIN
- Swim 25m freestyle
Proficient technique - Swim 25m backstroke
Alternating arm action - Swim 20m survival backstroke
Symmetrical leg action - Swim 15m breaststroke
Symmetrical leg action - Swim 15m dolphin kick
Unaided - Demonstrate a dive
- Demonstrate a tumble turn
AQUASTAR
- Scull feet first on back
Sculling hand action - Demonstrate eggbeater kick
Water polo kick - Swim continuously 200 metres
Proficient technique - 50m Backstroke
- 50m Breaststroke
- 50m Freestyle
- 25m Survival Backstroke
- 25m Sidestroke
- Demonstrate Butterfly
